Change Management: How to Break Through When One-Third of Employees Face 15 Changes a Year

Deloitte’s 2026 Global Human Capital Trends Report reveals a sobering reality: in the past year, one‑third of employees experienced up to 15 major organizational changes. The sheer frequency has triggered widespread “change fatigue,” putting employee engagement, sense of purpose, and well‑being under sustained pressure. Traditional project‑based change management is falling behind — only 27% of leaders believe their organizations can effectively handle continuous change.

This report, conducted in collaboration with Oxford Economics, surveyed more than 3,000 corporate and HR executives across 15 countries, along with 6,000 employees, frontline managers, and senior leaders. The findings are highly representative and authoritative.

A Troubling Gap

One of the most striking findings is the massive gap between awareness and action. While 85% of business leaders agree that organizational and employee agility are critical, only 7% say they are leading in fostering continuous employee growth and adaptability. In other words, most leaders recognize adaptability as the key to survival but fail to translate this recognition into practice.

Yan Rong, Deloitte Asia Pacific Managing Partner for Organization and Talent Transformation Consulting, notes: “Companies are entering a highly compressed growth cycle. Over the next three years, 70% of business leaders have listed rapid response and flexibility as strategic priorities. The real competitive divide no longer lies in technology gaps, but in building human‑centric organizational resilience and adaptability.”

The report explicitly recommends shifting from traditional “change management” to a paradigm of “positive adaptation”—embedding continuous learning and real‑time feedback into daily operations.

The Essence of Change Fatigue: Not Too Much Change, but Insufficient Preparation

Change fatigue is not simply caused by “too much change.” Academic studies consistently show it predicts higher burnout, increased turnover intent, and lower engagement. When employees are repeatedly forced to adapt without adequate preparation or support, their psychological resources are depleted faster than they can recover.

Gartner’s 2025 survey of 473 HR leaders confirms this: 73% reported employee fatigue from change, and 74% said managers lack the capability to lead change. The root problem is not change itself, but the absence of systematic capabilities to manage it.

From Passive Endurance to Proactive Adaptation: The Value of Personal Change Style Assessment

Solving change fatigue requires not fewer changes, but helping employees build intrinsic coping capabilities. This is where personal change style assessment proves invaluable.

This assessment helps individuals understand their natural reactions, preferences, and behaviors when facing change. Styles are categorized into four types: Tradition Bearers, Explorers, Guardians, and Mediators. This framework enables participants to identify their preferences and develop targeted adjustment for strategies, addressing behavioral change at its root.

Why does understanding your change style matter? Because fatigue often stems from a mismatch between personal style and change demands. A “Guardian,” who prefers gradual, stable progress, will experience far greater psychological strain when thrust into radical, fast‑paced change than an “Explorer,” who naturally embraces it. Without self‑awareness, employees cannot explain their resistance or proactively adjust their coping strategies.

eTACSEN’s Change Enablement™ Program helps participants use assessment results to understand their natural reactions, why they perceive change in certain ways, and how to adjust and embrace it. Participants also learn to recognize different styles in others, reducing misunderstandings and building more effective team communication and support.

Understanding your change style, learning adaptation methods, and continuously improving your ability to respond to change are critical for companies to remain competitive in an era where change is the norm.
